Just when you thought you had Terminator: Genisys‘ convoluted timeline all mapped out ahead of the film’s debut in July, Paramount Pictures has thrown up a curveball in the form of this all-too-revealing new trailer which, it should be said, contains a massive spoiler that essentially rewrites everything we’ve deduced thus far. Such is the beauty of time travel movies, right?
We’ll not delve into any of the finer details here, though, should you want to enter the theater in a couple of months time with a blank slate, but let’s just say that Jason Clarke’s John Connor has a much bigger role to play besides spearheading the future human resistance.
On the opposite end of the timeline, Jai Courtney’s Kyle Resse is the brave soldier being sent back in time to supposedly protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke), a young woman who he believes to be in need of help. Genisys changes tact here, though, as we are introduced to a battle-worn badass that channels Linda Hamilton’s rendition of Sarah from T2. Couple this with that aforementioned plot twist and you have a Terminator film that is not only rewriting the rule book, but doing so in a way that, at least up until now, feels wholly justified.
Terminator: Genisys will hope to silence the critics and kickoff an entire new trilogy for Paramount when it lands on July 1. In the meantime, tell us, are you excited to see Alan Taylor’s final product when it arrives on the silver screen?
