Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice has had its release date pushed back to 2016 by Sega, who said that “It’ll be ready when it’s ready.” Those words don’t sound particularly reassuring, especially considering the terrible reception that both Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric and Shattered Crystal for the Wii U and 3DS respectively, received when it released last year.
However, the blog post on the Sega website does suggest that they’re trying to avoid the misdeeds of the past by holding Fire & Ice back for some extra polish:
In the grand scheme of things, while the downside is that you won’t be playing the game this year, the upside is that what you’ll play next year, and what fans will continue to play for years after they pick up the game, will be a stronger, more enjoyable experience. We think that’s important, not just for this one game, but for all future Sonic titles.
Whether Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice manages to turn around the recent misfortunes Sonic has had to endure remains to be seen, but Sega can’t be blamed for a lack of trying.
