Following the release of the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War, Marvel has released a brand new synopsis for the movie. While our first look at the highly anticipated release certainly made it clear exactly what direction it will be taking, this clears up the reasons for the divide between the Avengers and asks fans to choose a side.

So, without further ado, here’s the new Captain America: Civil War synopsis in full, courtesy of Marvel Studios:

Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team.

The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability. Get ready to pick a side and join the nonstop action playing out on two fronts when Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War opens in U.S. theaters on May.

It’s interesting that Marvel are asking fans to choose between Captain America and Iron Man, but the comic book did the exact same thing, so perhaps we shouldn’t be all that surprised.

After all, basing the movie’s marketing campaign around “Team Cap” and “Team Iron Man” is a smart way to get people talking about Captain America: Civil War long before its released, and it’s actually quite shocking that Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hasn’t been doing the same (it is still early days, to be fair).

Regardless, Captain America: Civil War keeps sounding better and better, and while we likely won’t see or hear much about the movie until after Star Wars: The Force Awakens releases, expect the floodgates to open early next year.
