Make no mistake, although Rocksteady’s conclusive chapter in the Arkham series brought a sense of closure to the studio’s take on The Caped Crusader earlier in the year, publisher Warner Bros. will continue to expand the DC universe in the video game space, and a recent job listing posted by WB Games Montreal suggests that a pair of unannounced DC projects are in the works.
Best known for developing franchise offshoot Batman: Arkham Origins, the studio posted a job listing for two new licensed games based in the DC universe, fuelling speculation that once could be based around the fabled Justice League.
Here’s the official logline that can be found on WB Games Montreal’s site: “We are a growing studio with two AAA projects in development focused on expanding the DC Comics universe in the interactive space.”
[zerggaming]Given the burgeoning nature of the DC Expanded Universe, which will kick into high gear with next year’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, it’s hardly surprising that Warner Bros. is keen to release new superhero games to coincide with the fever-pitch excitement. Granted, that’s not to say that each release will act as a direct tie-in.
Plus, the very fact that Rocksteady stated repeatedly that Arkham Knight was the studio’s last entry in the DC universe makes this job posting all the more significant. Is the publisher shifting developing duties to WB Games Montreal moving forward?
It’s been a full two years since the release of Batman: Arkham Origins, and while details are still thin on the ground, we imagine that Warner Bros. has mapped out plans to apply a Rocksteady-like formula to some of its other costumed heroes over the next two-to-three years.
