BioWare’s space-faring sequel Mass Effect: Andromeda will launch during the first quarter of 2017, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen has confirmed.
That means the title falls in the publisher’s fourth quarter of fiscal year 2016, ensuring that it doesn’t open in the same corridor as DICE’s Battlefield 5 and, potentially, Titanfall 2. Jorgensen made the announcement while speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference, noting that EA has “a great year ahead.”
“We’ve got our Battlefield first-person shooter game coming in the third quarter, and our third-party title that Respawn, our partner, built, it’s called Titanfall, it’s the second title that they brought into that brand.
“Both of those are first-person shooters and will be targeted around the fast, action-driven shooter market, as well as the strategy-driven market in that quarter. We have our Mirror’s Edge runner game this first quarter, and then we have Mass Effect, which is a sci-fi action game, in our fourth quarter. So big year ahead and we’re pretty excited.”
Andromeda was tentatively placed for holiday 2016 upon reveal, though during a recent financial call EA all but confirmed that BioWare’s hotly-anticipated follow-up wouldn’t grace store shelves during this calendar year. It’ll keep up tradition, too, given that both Mass Effect 2 and 3 released during the January to March quarter in their respective years of release.
Catapulting the beloved franchise into our celestial neighbour, the Andromeda galaxy, Mass Effect Andromeda takes place long after the events of the original trilogy. And we can expect more details to come to light as the sci-fi sequel approaches its 2017 bow.
