Building on last week’s premiere remarkably well, the episode itself was jam-packed with important moments. Although, it was really the final money shot that sparked online conversation long into the early hours.

Spoilers to follow….

That’s right, after months of back-and-forth, the fate of Kit Harrington’s fallen Lord Commander was finally revealed, as The Red Priestess weaved her ancient magic – with some High Valyrian thrown in for good measure – to finally resurrect Jon Snow much to the delight of the Game of Thrones faithful.

It had been a plot point long telegraphed, what with Melisandre’s convenient return to Castle Black at the tail-end of season 5. Nevertheless, it made for a triumphant end to an excellent episode, and you can check in on Benioff and Weiss’s thoughts on it all above.

Looking ahead to next week, the latest episode of Westeros vignettes are described as so: “Daenerys meets her future; Bran meets the past; Tommen confronts the High Sparrow; Arya trains to be No One; Varys finds an answer; Ramsay gets a gift.”

Game of Thrones season 6 continues on Sunday, May 8 with “Oathbreaker.”
