On the heels of the first-look photo of a grizzled Hugh Jackman on set, production on James Mangold’s hotly-anticipated Wolverine 3 is now officially underway, and the first wave of set pics are here to prove it.

Featuring a sharp-suited Jackman, the snaps arrive by way of Just Jared (via CBM) and all but confirm that Mangold is indeed adapting Mark Millar and Steve McNiven’s Old Man Logan comic thread as early rumors had suggested.

Beyond that, 20th Century Fox has remain tight-lipped on story specifics for The Wolverine 3 – all we know for certain is that it’ll herald Hugh Jackman’s final turn donning those signature adamantium claws.

As such, speculation has been running amok as to whether Mangold and screenwriters Michael Green and David James Kelly will broaden the spectrum for the threequel, possibly lifting inspiration from the Death of Wolverine comic in the process. Speculation, sure, but those set photos of Jackman sporting a scruffy beard and what looks to be funeral attire tease an emotional swan song, with Mangold hopefully taking full advantage of the film’s R rating.

Before the cameras began rolling, Wolverine 3 also snapped up an enviable ensemble to help close the book on Jackman’s volatile mutant, including Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, Eriq La Salle and Elise Neal.

Aiming for a “radical and bold” conclusion to Logan’s storied arc, The Wolverine 3 will claw its way into theaters on March 3, 2017.
