Continuing its mission of assembling some of the toughest actors in Hollywood, Millennium Films has enlisted John Wick alum Michael Nyqvist and Toby Stephens – star of the hit Treasure Island prequel series Black Sails – for its upcoming submarine thriller, Hunter Killer.
Surfacing from choppy waters, Millennium picked up rights to the adaptation – one sourced from George Wallace and Don Keith’s acclaimed novel Firing Point – from Relativity Media in light of the company’s financial woes. Now, it appears to be firmly back on track, with Nyqvist and Stephens bound for the deep blue alongside Gerard Butler, Gary Oldman, Common and Billy Bob Thornton.
Helmed by Donovan Marsh, THR reveals that Nyqvist is set to take point as Captain Sergi Andropoyov, while Lt. Beaman is the name of Stephens’ no-nonsense black ops team leader.
Plunging beneath the icy ways surrounding the polar ice cap, Hunter Killer revolves around a submarine commander at the height of the Cold War, who teams with a group of U.S. Navy SEALs to rescue the Russian president that has been kidnapped by a rogue general. But nuclear tensions, they are arising, and it’s up to said submarine commander and his crew to keep Russia and the U.S. from the brink of full-blown war. Millennium hasn’t disclosed which side of the battle its core cast will find themselves on, but we’ll keep you posted as more information comes to light.
Production on Hunter Killer is primed to begin in London over the coming days ahead of an expected theatrical release in 2017.
