Nipping at the heels of the nerve-shredding first teaser, Entertainment Weekly has today pulled back the curtain on key art for The Exorcist that unveils a fate worse than death.
In the works over at Fox, the seralized horror redo is one of many upcoming TV projects that will be banking on nostalgia – Training Day, Lethal Weapon, Frequency and NBC’s prequel spin on Taken all fall into a similar camp – though with the talent attached to The Exorcist, we’re inclined to give this one the benefit of the doubt.
At the helm for September’s pilot episode is Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), who is returning to the small-screen after dabbling with blockbuster fare. Alfonso Herrera, meanwhile, will be the one confronting pure evil as Father Tomas Ortega, the “new face of the Catholic Church” that brings a decidedly different, more progressive strategy to the table. Marcus Brennan (Ben Daniels), on the other hand, hails from an old-school parish – brash and abrasive – and Fox’s series chronicles how the clergymen tackle the supernatural conundrum at hand.
Fox will conjure a new breed of horror when The Exorcist looms onto the small-screen on September 23. Below, you’ll be able to gawk at that unnerving image in all of its twisted glory.
The patriarch, Henry Rance, is slowly but surely losing his mind. Eldest daughter Katherine (Brianne Howey) has become a recluse who refuses to leave her room. Her younger sister, Casey (Hannah Kasulka), thinks she’s hearing strange noises coming from inside the walls. And mother Angela (Geena Davis) has been plagued by recurring nightmares, each more frightening than the last.
Angela believes there is something in the house, a demonic presence, growing stronger by the day. Desperate, she begs Father Tomas for help, unwittingly setting the naïve young priest on a collision course with Father Marcus. Separately, each faces an insurmountable task, but together they become the only hope against an evil force that has been mobilizing for centuries.
