The Playlist is reporting that Isle of Dogs, Wes Anderson’s newly announced stop-motion animation, has found a home at Fox Searchlight.
A vague 2018 release date has been set, and the announcement heralds something of reunion between the filmmaker and Fox Searchlight following The Darjeeling Limited and 2014’s The Grand Budapest Hotel. But Wes Anderson’s latest creative venture is more akin to the director’s work on Fantastic Mr. Fox, given its stop-motion nature, and though plot details are being kept firmly under lock and key, we now understand Isle of Dogs takes place in Japan and centers on a young boy’s search to find his missing canine.
But this is a Wes Anderson joint, meaning that viewers can surely look forward to a quirky, touching adventure that is anything but ordinary. Adding a touch of the extraordinary to Isle of Dogs is the movie’s ensemble cast, which is headlined by Greta Gerwig and Scarlett Johansson of Ghost in the Shell. Beyond that, there’s also room in the ranks for long-time collaborator Bill Murray, Bob Balaban, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Bryan Cranston, Jeff Goldblum, F. Murray Abraham, Harvey Keitel, Akira Ito, Akira Takayama, Koyu Rankin, Courtney B. Vance and Yoko Ono.
Isle of Dogs has officially been earmarked for 2018.
