During the events of Original Sin, Nick Fury whispered something in Thor‘s ear which left him unable to wield Mjolnir. Following the events of Secret Wars though, the “Unworthy” Thor has now his sights set on the hammer once held by his Ultimate Universe counterpart.

So far, he’s gone through hell and back in his bid to get his hands on it, but the cover for The Unworthy Thor #5 makes it clear that he’ll need to get through the Mad Titan Thanos first. How these two end up crossing paths remains to be seen, but it makes sense that Thanos would want such a powerful object.

For more on what to expect, here’s the issue’s solicitation text:

The hammer of the Ultimate Thor is finally within reach of Asgard’s fallen son. Is redemption finally at hand? No matter what happens next, life will never be the same for the Odinson.

The end of Civil War II teased Thor’s return as the God of Thunder, though he was holding the original Mjolnir there. Whether that means he’ll ultimately end up taking back the mantle from Jane Foster is unclear at this stage, especially as we still have two issues of The Unworthy Thor left to go.

As of right now, Iron Man is comatose, Thor is obviously unworthy and Captain America is a HYDRA agent, so the Marvel Universe is pretty much unrecognizable. The return of the Odinson as Thor would definitely be welcomed as a result, but we’ll just have to wait and see how this ends up playing out.
