Cast Photo For Star Trek: Discovery Gathers The Crew

Though it's by no means an official photo of Jason Isaacs and Co. decked out in costume, a new Star Trek: Discovery pic has arrived to gather the crew.

The prolonged wait for Star Trek: Discovery has left fans frustrated, make no mistake about it, but by the same token, there’s now a pent-up demand for CBS’ original series.

Much of that excitement comes down to the fact that Discovery, the first show developed specifically for CBS’ All Access platform, heralds the first Star Trek TV outing since Enterprise bowed off the airwaves more than a decade ago. What’s interesting is that it’ll actually take place approximately ten years before the original Star Trek series, in which the crew of the USS Discovery embarks on a spacefaring adventure across the cosmos.

Speaking of the crew, today brings forth our first look at most of the stars currently attached to Star Trek: Discovery. First spotted by Empire, the Instagram pic (seen below) assembles the likes of Jason Isaacs (Captain Lorca), Michelle Yeoh (Shenzhou’s Captain Georgiou), Obi (Klingon T’Kuvma) and The Walking Dead‘s Sonequa Martin-Green. She’ll play lead character Rainsford, also known as Number One, a lieutenant commander who holds the title of first officer on board the Discovery. Elsewhere, there’s also Mary Chieffo (L’Rell, a Klingon battle deck commander), Mary Wiseman (Tilly, a Starfleet cadet), and Anthony Rapp as science officer Stamets.

Stamets is set to make history for CBS’ upcoming series in the sense that his science officer is the first openly gay character to appear in the Star Trek universe. When quizzed about his character’s sexual orientation by MetroWeekly, he noted:

“I’m honored to be a part of a piece of work that’s part of the cultural pantheon. It’s kind of crazy that I get to be a part of something that means so much to so many people. It meant a lot to me, too. I’m thrilled and I’m honored to be the vehicle for this aspect of the story that’s being told.”

All 13 episodes of Star Trek: Discovery are expected to beam up onto CBS All Access sometime this year. Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts will leverage showrunner duties between them.
