Sean Pertwee “Would Love” For Gotham To Give Way To A Batman Movie

If anything, the advantages TV has over movies are that it can not only flesh out characters in ways that just can’t be accomplished within two hours or so, but it also allows us to meet others that film franchises often don’t get around to. And while Gotham has heavily focused on villains the average Joe is familiar with such as Penguin and Riddler, it’s important to note that it’s given us the first live action representations of Hugo Strange and Azrael.

With it serving as an extended prequel to the Batman mythos, one would assume that it’d eventually be taken to its logical conclusion by showing David Mazouz don the cape and cowl. Actually, word on the street is that those working on Smallville were hoping that it’d one day lead to a movie starring their own Man of Steel, but Superman Returns put those hopes to bed.

While speaking at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in Nashville, Sean Pertwee, who plays Alfred Pennyworth and recently teased an upcoming appearance by Dick Grayson, said he hopes that Gotham can one day cap the series with a movie of its own:

“Absolutely. I would love nothing more than to be involved in a cinematic version. The end of this season when they had the two episodes together, that was almost like a movie and I’d like to see more of that.”

Truthfully, if Matt Reeves’ The Batman weren’t such a high priority for WB, and the fact that the character is currently tied up in a cinematic universe, we’d say such a thing wouldn’t be out of the question. But, realistically, this probably won’t ever happen. Still, wouldn’t it be cool if, say, there were to be an animated movie showcasing the Dark Knight that Gotham‘s Bruce Wayne grew up to be? Now, that would be something, wouldn’t it?
