American Horror Story isn’t a show that tends to display its wares ahead of time. As a matter of fact, FX often goes to great lengths in order to retain a sense of mystery and intrigue around its prized horror anthology series, even going so far as to release faux promos to keep viewers in the dark.
The hit show will return later this year for a seventh season, one which will mine inspiration from the Presidential Election of 2016. Further details on that political theme and its many characters remain under lock and key, but according to Deadline, the title has now been revealed – after much teasing and speculation.
During a special fan-driven event that took place at San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that season 7 has been dubbed American Horror Story: Cult. It’s not the most exciting or informative reveal, but it does at least paint a bit of a picture of what we should expect when the series returns, especially if you pair it with all the clues Murphy’s been dropping on social media lately.
Of course, there’s still a whole lot we don’t know about the upcoming season, but we can confirm that AHS veterans Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson will both be returning for more, as will Lady Gaga if recent rumors are to be believed. Not only that, but they’ll be joined by an exciting supporting cast comprised of Billie Lourd, Billy Eichner and Lena Dunham, among others.
