Though a fair portion of The Walking Dead community is still pulling for Daryl and Carol to get together on AMC’s flagship series, Melissa McBride’s fan-favorite may have her eye on another survivor by the time season 8 rolls around later this month.
Per Entertainment Weekly, McBride and co-star Khary Payton, who plays King Ezekiel on The Walking Dead, discussed the possibility of Carol and Ezekiel hooking up. Granted, the two haven’t shared an awful lot of screentime together – not yet, at least – but it’s worth keeping in mind that Ezekiel has already offered Carol shelter, and Payton believes his on-screen character harbors some feelings toward Ms. Peletier.
He clearly has a thing for Carol. Now the question is, it takes two to tango, man. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, that Carol is a tough nut to crack.
Khary Payton is clearly fond of the idea, but what about McBride? While chatting to EW, here’s what the actress had to share:
I think she totally appreciates him and she’s trying to be standoffish because it hurts. It hurts to get close to people. When you get close to people, you have to fight for them. So she’s trying to maintain distance with anyone until she can resolve this gobbledy-doo in her head one way or another about having to kill.
But there are more pressing issues at hand. With Negan and his Saviors running riot, it’s clear that romance will have to wait, and that’s something Payton acknowledged:
At the moment they’ve got kind of more pressing matters at hand. So there’s really no time for midnight strolls along the beach, you know? They’ve got s–t to do.
The Walking Dead returns for its eighth season later this month. It’ll kick off with the super-sized “Mercy” on October 22nd, which will make history as the show’s 100th episode. Beyond that, AMC has also drawn up early plans for a crossover with Fear The Walking Dead, a companion series that has now entered its third season on the air.
