Because on October 22nd, the communities of Alexandria, the Hilltop, and the Kingdom will take up arms against Negan and his sinister Saviors. It’s a full-blown conflict that has the potential to be unmissable television (our review), and if you still feel burned by the fairly underwhelming seventh season, rest assured, all involved have made a conscious effort to deliver on those lofty expectations.

Not only will The Walking Dead season 8 bring a sense of closure to the spat between Rick and Negan, but there have also been rumblings of a potential romantic subplot between Carol and Ezekiel – played once again by Melissa McBride and Khary Payton, respectively – which only has us all the more excited for next Sunday.

In terms of these newly-released promos, AMC’s marketing blitz is surely beginning to enter the final stages, lest it spoil all of the surprises before The Walking Dead fanbase even lay eyes on the opening episode. The featurette below is a different story, as it presents a roll call of all the new faces expected to feature in season 8.

Look for The Walking Dead to shuffle back onto the airwaves on Sunday, October 22nd with “Mercy.” In keeping with those claims that episode number 100 will be the show’s most ambitious yet, season 8’s premiere is an extended one, and its expected to clock in at around 79 minutes in length. Greg Nicotero is behind the lens, with the subsequent instalment, “The Damned,” coming by way of Rosemary Rodriguez.
