Watch: Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season Finale Promo Signals “The End”

Ahead of Friday's hotly-anticipated finale, ABC has unveiled a new promo for Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. signaling The End...for now.

No longer will “The End” be referred to as the series finale of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., but that doesn’t take away from the fact that Agent Phil Coulson and his team are up against it.

Yes, the Marvel fanbase breathed a collective sigh of relief earlier this afternoon when it was announced that ABC had handed out a 13-episode sixth season to its long-running super series. That’s down from the usual episode count of 22, which tells us that ABC and Marvel’s TV arm are still undecided when it comes to the live-action scripted drama.

For instance, will S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s sixth season be its last? And how will Friday’s finale tie into the events of Avengers: Infinity War? Those questions will no doubt continue to simmer over the next few days, but to ensure excitement remains at a fever-pitch, ABC has pumped out a really rather epic new promo for season 5’s swan song, “The End.”

And as if that wasn’t enough, below you’ll see a brief video championing the network’s decision to extend the show’s life expectancy well into 2019.

Cast announcements for season 6 aren’t expected until a later date, but we can at least take solace in the fact that Clark Gregg’s super agent will be returning in time for 2019’s Captain Marvel movie, given its 90s setting.

He’s by no means the only MCU character poised for a big return, mind you, given Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden’s standalone movie also features Lee Pace (Ronan the Accuser) and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) among its gigantic cast list.

Meanwhile, the series season 5 finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., aptly titled “The End,” airs Friday, May 18th at 9 p.m. ET.
