Frank Castle will soon return to make the lives of New York’s criminals an absolute misery, as the second season of Netflix’s The Punisher is currently filming. The Marvel series is shooting in Bellmore, NY as we speak and already, a number of set photos have made their way online.
A spinoff of Daredevil season 2, the first run of Castle’s solo outing turned out to be one of the strongest entries in Netflix’s corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date. Part of that was to do with its talented cast, including Amber Rose Revah as Special Agent Dinah Madani, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Frank’s techy pal Micro and Ben Barnes as friend-turned-foe Billy Russo.
Of course, it’s that last one who fans are most curious about going into season 2, as when we last saw him, Billy the Beaut was left in a coma after a terrifying and brutal confrontation with Frank. It seems he’ll be back in action later this year, though, as a new set video has surfaced and in it, we see Mr. Russo causing some trouble for the titular anti-hero.
What Billy will be getting up to when the show returns remains to be seen, but in the comics, he’s more commonly known as Jigsaw. Readers of the source material will remember that on the page, he was thrown through a window by Frank Castle. With his once handsome face torn to shreds, Russo rechristened himself Jigsaw and swore revenge on the Punisher. As mentioned above, something similar happened in the television adaptation as well – though it didn’t play out quite the same – and now, Billy will no doubt be looking to get even with Frank.
Thankfully, then, Jon Bernthal’s hardened mercenary hasn’t lost his edge since enacting vengeance on the Homeland agents responsible for the deaths of his wife and children. That leaves Castle in a pretty interesting spot, mentally speaking, as we approach season 2.
Indeed, recent intel has suggested that The Punisher‘s next installment was casting the net in search of three supporting players: Annie Beir, Kim Davis, and Melvin Skelling. Details of their respective roles weren’t disclosed, but if nothing else, this only lends credence to those rumors that Netflix and Marvel plan to adapt “The Slavers” and the “Suicide Run” comics and fuse them into one.
The jury’s still out on that one, mind you, but we’ll notify you if and when that situation changes.
