Paul Rudd Being Eyed For Lead Role In Sonic The Hedgehog Movie

As I’m sure most of you are probably aware, Ant-Man was one of the few MCU superheroes to sit out of Avengers: Infinity War. While his comrades battled Thanos (Josh Brolin) to the death, quite literally, the diminutive superhero was nowhere to be found. Nonetheless, Scott Lang’s absence from the fourth highest-grossing motion picture of all time doesn’t appear to have affected the rep of his portrayer, Paul Rudd.

According to CBM, the actor’s being eyed for a lead role in the live-action/CGI film adaption of the best selling video game franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog. Formerly in development at Sony Pictures before Sega made the switch to Paramount Pictures, Rudd’s expected to play Tom, “a cop who befriends Sonic and will likely team up to defeat the evil Robotnik.”

Directed by animator Jeff Fowler (Gopher Broke), who was brought on board by executive producer Tim Miller (Deadpool), the 2004 Academy Award nominee will be working from a script penned by Patrick Casey and Josh Miller.

As for Rudd, whose next MCU outing, Ant-Man and the Wasp, is still a little over a month away (July 6th), he would’ve undoubtedly made for a terrific choice to voice the titular speedster, given his undeniable comedic chops. Regardless, the New Jersey-born actor will still be a great addition to the project and should help Paramount attract some more A-list talent to fill out the rest of the cast.

With shooting expected to get underway in Vancouver this summer, Sonic the Hedgehog will be working with a reported budget of $90 million and is scheduled for release on November 15th, 2019. As of now, that’s all we’ve got to go on, but as soon as further details surface, we’ll be sure to let you know.
