Gotham Star Discusses Victor Zsasz’s Future In Season 5

Though Gotham's fifth and final season is still a bit down the line - January of 2019, according to actress Camren Bicondova - there's actually been a steady stream of news regarding the Batman prequel series in recent memory. Actually, that's to be expected knowing that cameras begin rolling in July as they usually would, so it stands to reason there won't be a massive crater separating now from winter when it comes to fresh information.

While we ponder the futures of regulars such as Bruce Wayne, the Penguin and Jim Gordon though, it’s important we not forget the rest of the colorful characters populating the ravaged city. The one we’re here to discuss today has been around since the very first season, actually, even if you don’t see his name in the credits each episode.

When it comes to Anthony Carrigan, I’ve been quite surprised by how he’s never been promoted to series regular status, but I guess that comes down to how many other projects he must juggle. And though his interpretation of Victor Zsasz has been markedly different from the villain known from the comic books, I’ve been thoroughly entertained by his dark sense of humor every time he graces the screen.

Here’s what Carrigan had to say to ComicBook.com about coming back for one last tour:

“Well, I’m curious myself. I’m excited that we got a fifth season. I’m very, very happy for everyone on Gotham. They totally deserve it, and deserve to kind of really, really, really tie it up together nicely. And also I was happy too because Victor Zsasz essentially left to go get a milkshake. That was, like, the last line that he has, and I was like, ‘He can’t just go get a milkshake and never come back again. Come on.'”

He continued:

“But I think it seems like they’re going to be going in some interesting directions in this next coming season, and definitely keeping everyone on their toes, and surprising everyone. And, yeah, I’m excited. I’m excited for how Victor Zsasz could be kind of from in that world, and bringing something new to the table.”

Regarding whether he’ll ultimately show up in the series finale, Carrigan offered the following:

“I’m going to give you a maybe on that. There’s a lot of things up in the air right now. But, you know, I love playing Victor Zsasz, and it would be a total honor to kind of go back and do it, but like I said, there’s a lot of factors at play.”

After reading all that, I’m kind of hoping that Victor will be sipping a milkshake next time we see him on Gotham, even if it’s been months since his last chronological appearance. If so, we’ll be left to wonder if he just can’t get enough of the frosty beverages, or if he’s been nursing the same one this entire time.
