DC’s Live-Action Doom Patrol Series Has Found Its Cyborg

Joivan Wade of The First Purge is locked in to play Victor Stone (AKA Cyborg) for DC's live-action rendition of Doom Patrol.

Amid all the megatons coming out of Sony’s embryonic Marvel universe this afternoon, DC has quietly announced the casting of Joivan Wade, who has been brought in to play Victor Stone (AKA Cyborg) on Doom Patrol.

Perhaps best known for his credits on Doctor Who and Blumhouse horror prequel The First Purge, this marks Wade’s first superhero role. And he couldn’t have picked a better time to dabble in Warner’s comic book playground, as Doom Patrol is one of three live-action series destined for the soon-to-be-released DC Universe streaming service.

It’ll reportedly go live later this year with the laughably dark rendition of Titans, before Doom Patrol and Swamp Thing join the roster in 2019. On script duties for this one is Jeremy Carver, who will be drafting up a treatment which involves Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby) and Crazy Jane.

At the center of that story is madcap scientist Dr. Niles Caulder, who cherry-picks each reject and attempts to forge some semblance of a superhero ensemble. Their mission? To explore the “weirdest and most unexpected corners of the DC universe,” and we understand Cyborg is all set to become the beating (cybernetic) heart of Doom Patrol.

Per Warner Bros., Vic Stone’s alter-ego “may be connected to every computer on the world, but he struggles to maintain the connections that make him human. Desperate to gain acceptance from the outside world, Vic harnesses the curse of his cybernetic body and uses his powers as the ultimate hero for the digital age.”

Look for Doom Patrol to boot online sometime next year – long after DC Universe subscribers have been acquainted with Titans and its potty-mouthed Robin (Brenton Thwaites).
