Carlton Cuse, former screenwriter and frequent showrunner of Lost, has admitted that he would get behind a possible series reboot… on one condition.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Cuse was asked straight-up about the rumors surrounding a potential revival, to which he replied that while Lost 2.0 is good in theory, it would need to recruit an entirely new cast if it was to receive the blessing of Cuse and fellow series veteran Damon Lindelof.

This actually chimes with Evangeline Lilly’s recent comments, after the Ant-Man and the Wasp actress admitted that she currently has no interest in reprising the role of Kate Austen, believing that her story, like the stories of everyone else trapped on that mysterious island, has already been told.

Said Cuse:

Damon and I have always been adamant that we told the story that we wanted to tell. I would be fine if ABC hired somebody who
had a good idea [to reboot it] involving other characters that go to the island at some other point
in time. I would be less excited if they wanted to use the characters that we had in our show.

If that’s the case, and Lost is given a new lick of paint by one of the industry’s major platforms (i.e. Netflix, Amazon, Hulu), would Carlton Cuse want to be involved? Turns out the show’s former showrunner is otherwise engaged, as he currently has his hands full piloting Amazon’s Jack Ryan TV series, which has John Krasinski of A Quiet Place in the title role.

And Lost? Well, things don’t look particularly great for the sci-fi gem, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on any potential developments as they emerge.
