The Flash To Start Shooting In Early 2019, Directors Still Attached

THR's recent Warner Bros. expose got a lot of attention for the bombshell that Henry Cavill might be done with Superman, with Ben Affleck likely following him out the door. Another interesting detail from the article that has been mostly looked over is that the trade has confirmed The Flash solo movie is set to go before the cameras in early 2019.

THR’s recent Warner Bros. expose got a lot of attention for the bombshell that Henry Cavill might be done with Superman, with Ben Affleck likely following him out the door. Another interesting detail from the article that’s been mostly overlooked though is that the trade has confirmed The Flash solo movie is set to go before the cameras in early 2019.

The first standalone film for the Scarlet Speedster has been a long time coming. Back in the 2000s, for instance, Ryan Reynolds almost got to play Wally West. More recently, though, Ezra Miller’s been contracted to star in one for the past few years. A slew of in-demand directors came and went – including Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Seth Grahame-Smith and Rick Famuyiwa – and the script/story changed several times, too.

Finally, Spider-Man: Homecoming screenwriters Jonathan Goldstein and Jon Francis Daley were signed up as directors earlier this year and at last, the project found its groove. Despite fans having been preparing themselves to expect a Flashpoint movie, Goldstein and Daley (who are still attached for the record, even if rumors said otherwise) decided to scale it back a bit and likely pitched it somewhere closer to their Marvel movie. Back to the Future has also been cited as a touchstone for the pic.

Previously reports had placed The Flash as starting production in the early part of next year, and THR’s statement seemingly confirms it. That said, we’re not entirely sure they were on the ball with their Cavill scoop. No one’s outright denied it yet, but the actor, his manager and WB themselves have released statements (well, in Cavill’s case, a bizarre Instagram video) that appear to infer that he isn’t hanging up his blue tights just yet.

Still, as this one does come from multiple sources, it sounds like Ezra Miller will be suiting up as Central City’s savior again in just a few short months, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated as and when more Flash developments occur.
