Gotham Season 5 Picks Up Eight Months After No Man’s Land Events

When we last left Gotham, the city had been left in ruin following the destruction caused by Ra's al Ghul and Jeremiah Valeska seen in the season finale, "A Dark Knight: No Man's Land." And much like the comic book for which it was named, said events will dramatically shift the status quo heading into the Batman prequel series' final year.

When we last saw Gotham, the city had been left in ruin following the destruction caused by Ra’s al Ghul and Jeremiah Valeska seen in the season finale, “A Dark Knight: No Man’s Land.” And much like the comic book for which it was named, said events will dramatically shift the status quo heading into the Batman prequel series’ final year.

To be more specific, the decimated metropolis has been left to its own devices, as the likes of the Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Firefly and Scarecrow have begun carving out their own respective territories. Naturally, many innocents have been left behind, and it’s up to guys like Bruce Wayne and Jim Gordon to set things right, the latter of whom could be seen on a foreboding poster promoting season 5.

Interestingly enough, the story will pick up following an eight-month time jump, so we’ll see just how hellish the landscape has grown in the time we’ve been away. Actually, such a thing was expected, but not in the way people who read only headlines had thought. In other words, the reason I’m careful with using the phrase “time jump” is because some will misconstrue that as having a vastly older Bruce patrolling the streets of Gotham. Really, I’ve seen it happen.

Confirmation on this comes via ComicBook.com’s recent visit to the show’s set, but we anticipate learning much more about what’s to come at New York Comic Con this weekend. Odds are that a new trailer will finally debut, but fingers remain crossed regarding anything pertaining to Bane’s introduction.

In the meantime, there’s also this synopsis to go off:

With Gotham on the brink of total anarchy and cut off from the outside world, only Jim Gordon, Bruce Wayne and a handful of heroes remain behind to retake the city. Inspired by the “No Man’s Land” arc from the comics, villains including Penguin, the Riddler, the Sirens and Jeremiah have taken claim on various regions of the city. Will order be restored, or will chaos reign in Gotham?

Gotham returns for its fifth season sometime in early 2019 on Fox.
