Louisiana woman says police killed her daughter and shot her autistic son. Then she alleges they tried to cover it up: ‘why isn’t it on the news?’

A Lafayette, Louisiana, woman is going viral on TikTok over her claim that local cops “blew my daughter’s brains out, shot my autistic son, & tried to cover it up.”

The brief video, which has so far had 1.6 million views and counting, bills this as “my Netflix documentary” and is part of #JusticeForKaci campaign demanding accountability.

The incident in question took place on Aug 5, 2025, at a home on South General Marshall Street, Lafayette. KLFY reports that the incident began when the Lafayette Police Department responded to a domestic abuse call.

“Questions to answer.”

The three attending officers, Hali Bradford, Raynard Ford, and Alan Cortez, reportedly knocked on the locked front door and received no response, so entered the home. At this point, a woman ran from the home and fled, while another attempted to escort two children outside. John Mitchell Nicholas is then said to have emerged from a hallway wielding an AR-15-style rifle and fired 26 shots.

Two of the three officers were hit, and an exchange of fire began. 19-month-old Kaci Giselle Cyprian was shot in the head, her young brother and great-aunt were injured, two of the cops were left with serious injuries (one with a permanent disability), and Nicholas (Kaci’s uncle) was wounded.

In April 2026, Nicholas was convicted of three counts of attempted first-degree murder of police officers and felony possession of a firearm. Last week he was sentenced to 150 years, with District Attorney Don Landry saying:

“The defendant was a serious repeat offender who used a gun to seriously injure officers, we are going to make sure that police officers who go to work each day and tell their families goodbye can rest assured that if someone tries to shoot or kill them, that defendant will go to prison for a long, long time. Everyone in our judicial district needs to know that if they do anything like this, my office will prosecute them and they will spend the rest of their life in prison.”

A Change.org petition (signed by 2,100 people) details that Kaci’s family “suspect foul play or, at the very least, gross negligence” on the part of the three officers who attended the scene. They say:

“We insist upon a formal investigation into the actions of Officers Hali Bradford, Raynard Ford, and Alan Cortez, and any other officer of LAFAYETTE POLICE DEPARTMENT & SHERIFF OFFICE whom we believe have questions to answer regarding this horrific incident. Despite the sudden and devastating loss of Kaci, serious queries about the circumstances leading up to her death remain unanswered.”

They demand that the officers involved are placed on leave without pay as an investigation takes place and conclude, “Only through rigorous investigation and resolution of this case can we hope to prevent such heartbreaking incidents in the future.”

A separate trial for Kaci’s death is pending, with Nicholas facing a second-degree murder charge and related counts of injury to the other victims. A date for the second trial has not yet been set.

This kind of incident is sadly far from rare. Just this week, we heard about how officers lured into a “swatting” incident shot an innocent man eight times and left him paralyzed for life.
