Epic New Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 Trailer Blasts Online

As expected, an exhilarating new trailer for season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery has blasted online today, straight from New York Comic Con.
This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

Season 1 of Star Trek: Discovery was a bit of a mixed bag. True, there were some awesome new characters who we enjoyed getting to know and a good deal of thrilling action and plot twists, but it still wasn’t quite the mainstream TV re-invention of the franchise that the producers had hoped it would be. That might all change when season 2 airs in January 2019, though.

When it returns, the show plans to dig deeper into the wider Trek universe. For starters, Inhumans‘ Anson Mount is hopping aboard as the new captain, Christopher Pike, while Rebecca Romijn will play his first mate Number One. Perhaps most exciting of all, though, is that Ethan Peck has joined the cast as Spock, the third actor to play the role of the iconic Vulcan.

All of that and more is teased in this exhilarating new trailer which blasted into New York Comic Con today. Much like the first preview which debuted back at San Diego Comic Con in July, it teases a lighter outing than last season, with a lot of the doom and gloom gone and in its place, pure, unadulterated fun.

There’s a couple of treats for true Trekkies sprinkled throughout here, too, while the preview also gives us our first look at the new Spock, with the Vulcan saying the ominous line: “As a child, I had the same vision, again and again. Now I understand where it must lead.” Color us intrigued!

As we mentioned above, one of the biggest things to watch out for this season – aside from Spock, of course – is Anson Mount’s Captain Christopher Pike, who looks set to shake up Discovery in a “big way.” That’s according to Sonequa Martin-Green, at least, who offered some insight into Mount’s newcomer and what he’ll bring to the show’s crucial sophomore run recently, saying:

In that big way that a captain affects a ship and a crew. A crew is almost defined by the essence of the captain. We went through the ringer with Lorca, and so there’s a little bit of PTSD there. There’s a little bit of distrust there because of what we’ve gone through and because we had someone who manipulated us and sought to kill us for his own gain. And so, Pike being the deeply rooted good guy he is, he is going to have an effect on us. He’s soothing in that way. He’s comforting in that way. And hopefully you will see us sort of galvanize because of that.

From what we can see here, Star Trek: Discovery season 2 appears to be taking the show in a more fan-pleasing direction and we can’t wait to find out what else is in store for us when it returns to CBS All Access in January 2019. We imagine the promotional campaign will begin to really ramp up now, too, as we inch closer and closer to the new year, and as soon as the network brings us more, we’ll be sure to let you know.
