Buffy The Vampire Slayer Star Fully Supports Joss Whedon’s Reboot

Joss Whedon fans were left stunned this summer when it was announced that the Avengers director was rebooting his seminal supernatural TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with Whedon exec producing and Monica Owusu-Breen on showrunning duties. We don't know much about the new series' approach to the original material just yet, but it's said that the central Slayer will be African-American.

The idea of resurrecting a beloved show like Buffy obviously didn’t go down well with a lot of people, but stars of the original have since come forward to support the reboot and to wish Whedon and his team all the best. The latest to do so is Michelle Trachtenberg, who played Buffy’s teen sister Dawn Summers from season 5 onwards.

At Rhode Island Comic-Con, Trachtenberg was speaking to another Buffy alumn, Clare Kramer (season 5 big bad Glory), when she made clear that she has faith in what Whedon’s planned. “Joss is a brilliant, creative genius,” the actress said, “and I’m sure the person be hired to oversee the [reboot series] will do a great job.”

Previously, the likes of Alyson Hannigan (Willow), David Boreanaz (Angel) and James Marsters (Spike) have given their thoughts on the reboot and all were positive. In fact, Marsters seems keen to dye his hair blonde again and reappear as the punk rocker vampire in the new show.

But could any of the original cast members show up on the reboot? Well, though the initial reports talked about the series as a remake, Owusu-Breen’s suggested that it’ll be more of a continuation of the original’s mythology, suggesting it’s more of a sequel show that’ll focus on a different Slayer than Buffy. That would leave the door open for cameos from familiar faces, something that would no doubt please those fans still on the fence about the whole thing.
