John Cena Says He Thinks He’d Be A Good Captain America

The other month, John Cena prompted confusion and speculation online when he shared an uncaptioned image on Instagram of the Captain America shield with a few scratches on it. Understandably, some took this to mean that the wrestler/actor was expressing his interest in taking up the heroic mantle after Chris Evans departs from the MCU, and sure enough, it sounds like the star of the upcoming Bumblebee would be all for doing such a thing.

The topic came up during a recent appearance on Ellen, where the actor sounded pretty surprised by all the commotion his Instagram post had caused. Cena then went on to make a tongue-in-cheek plea to Marvel Studios to consider him for the part, saying that he thinks he’d be a good Captain America.

“For real? Who started this rumor?” John shared with Ellen DeGeneres. “Yeah, I might have started it. I don’t know. Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t. But if it’s out there, if the Captain America people are listening and you’re out there watching right now, I’ll totally do it. I totally will.”

He continued, “I think I’d be a good Captain America. And I’ve already ruined everybody’s childhood so it can’t get any worse. Might as well.”

Despite what Cena might think, it’s highly unlikely that he’ll be picking up the shield anytime soon. After all, Avengers: Endgame director Joe Russo recently teased that despite what we all expected, Chris Evans may not be done with the role. But even if he is, we don’t see Marvel bringing someone like Cena in to play the part.

Presumably, an existing character – probably Bucky or Falcon – would be the one to take the mantle next. Then again, Marvel could also surprise us with an unexpected choice or perhaps even with someone we’ve yet to meet in the MCU. Whoever it is, though, it almost certainly won’t be John Cena.

What do you make of all this, though? Do you think the Bumblebee star would be a good Captain America? Or do you have someone else in mind for when Evans eventually makes his exit? Let us know by commenting down below.
