With the Doom Patrol TV show just a couple of months out from premiering on DC Universe, we’re now hearing that it’s already been renewed for a second season. At least, that’s according to Fandom Wire, who say that the series will shoot its next outing in 2019 before it presumably arrives at some point in 2020.
Though Warner Bros. has yet to make an official announcement on this, they’ve still got time, as Doom Patrol doesn’t debut until February 15th and it’s possible that the reveal could arrive alongside the show premiering on the streaming service. So, in other words, expect to hear confirmation from the studio within the next month or so.
Until then, you can look forward to meeting what’s been described as the small-screen version of DC’s Suicide Squad. In fact, Diane Guerrero’s Crazy Jane has been touted as the Harley Quinn of the group, while you also have April Bowlby as Elasti-Woman, who can change her body at will. Joivan Wade, on the other hand, offers the show’s take on Cyborg, and fans are certainly eager to see how he differs from Ray Fisher’s version on the big screen.
Elsewhere, we’ve got Brendan Fraser as Robotman, a former race car driver whose brain was transplanted into a robot body after an accident destroyed his own, and Matt Bomer’s Negative Man, a former pilot who developed a “radioactive soul-self” after crashing into some negative energy. That motley crew will be brought together by Timothy Dalton’s Niles Caulder, aka The Chief, who’ll act as leader of the line-up.
Given that Doom Patrol is set to share its continuity with the likes of Titans as part of its own universe, hopes are high that this new gang of oddballs can win over fans. After all, though the latter program had a rough start, it turned out to be some pretty enjoyable and compelling television when all was said and done, and with any luck, this next DC Universe show will follow suit.
