In addition to seeing Friday the 13th alum Derek Mears embodying the Avatar of the Green, expect for the supporting cast to be rounded out by those known to be staples of the mythos. In fact, love interest Abby Arcane is actually being played by Gotham veteran Crystal Reed, so DC fans should already have some level of familiarity with her.

Speaking of which, The GWW’s own Thomas Polito posted a behind the scenes shot featuring Reed over on Twitter. Seen below, she can be found conversing with her colleagues – director Len Wiseman and co-star Andy Bean – in between takes.

Exactly what’s caused the corpse they’re standing over to appear so grotesque remains a mystery, though my mind can’t help being reminded of the Rot. Then again, producer James Wan has said to expect influence from Alan Moore’s work, but you never know if Scott Snyder’s writings were also used for inspiration.

For more on the highly anticipated series, be sure to check out the official synopsis:

When CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.

Right now, Swamp Thing lacks a release date, but a recent infographic touted by DC Universe points toward a debut to come in either May or June of 2019. As always, keep watching this space for more.
