Obi-Wan Kenobi TV Show Reportedly In Development For Disney Plus

In the wake of Solo: A Star Wars Story bombing last year, multiple proposed projects were reportedly put on ice at Lucasfilm, including the planned Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone flick. Nonetheless, it remains common knowledge in the Star Wars fanbase that striking Luke Skywalker's old mentor down makes him more powerful than you can possibly imagine, and so a new report from Star Wars News Net alleges that a TV show focusing on Ewan McGregor's character is currently in development.

Of course, it remains common knowledge in the Star Wars fanbase that striking Luke Skywalker’s old mentor down makes him more powerful than you can possibly imagine, and so a new report from Star Wars News Net alleges that a TV show focusing on Ewan McGregor’s character is currently in development.

Though there’s hardly a character from the Star Wars saga that some source or other hasn’t alleged might have a Disney Plus series on the way, the outlet relays word that an Obi-Wan show is the “next top priority” for the streaming service, and that the project could get as many as six episodes. And for what it’s worth, the report also adds that they’ve heard the “script is GREAT.”

Given how many Star Wars rumors have been making the rounds lately, it’s probably best to take this one with the usual grain of salt, but after Solo‘s lackluster box office performance showed that the franchise’s cinematic universe has its limits, Disney Plus would certainly make sense as alternative channel for telling new stories. And with The Mandalorian already looking like a substitute for the canceled Boba Fett film, surely Disney can still find a place for McGregor’s take on one of the property’s most cherished characters.

In any case, the report goes on to speculate that the Obi-Wan Kenobi solo series could be announced at Star Wars Celebration in April, but in the meantime, let’s just wait and see if any further news emerges on this potential fan-pleaser.
