The CW’s Batwoman Show Just Cast Its Male Lead

The CW has just cast the male lead for its upcoming Batwoman TV show, choosing Dougray Scott to play Jacob Kane opposite Ruby Rose.

It’s looking increasingly likely that Kate Kane, Gotham’s newfound protector, will be sticking around for the long haul on The CW.

At least, that’s according to network chief Mark Pedowitz, who recently teased that the upcoming Batwoman TV show will soon be of equal importance to the other five DC series on The CW – namely Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl and Black Lightning.

If you’ve been keeping pace with the project’s development lately, you’ll know that Ruby Rose, star of John Wick: Chapter Two and Orange is the New Black, found herself chosen for the coveted role late last year, with Caroline Dries and Arrowverse architect Greg Berlant set to call the shots from behind the scenes. And now, with production heating up, the rest of the cast is starting to fill out.

Deadline reports tonight that the show has found its male lead in the form of Dougray Scott, who’s been selected to star opposite Rose as the titular heroine’s father, Jacob Kane. For those unfamiliar with the character, here’s how the outlet describes him:

“A former military colonel with a chip on his shoulder for Batman, Jacob Kane now commands Gotham’s private security firm The Crows, and has made it his mission to protect his city better than the Dark Knight ever could. But it’s only a matter of time before his unwavering disdain for vigilantes puts him at odds with Gotham’s new caped crusader…who also happens to be his own daughter.”

In addition to Scott boarding the show, we’re also learning that there’s been a bit of a switcheroo behind the camera, as Marcos Siega has stepped in to direct and executive produce the pilot, taking over for David Nutter, who’s had to depart due to personal reasons. With titles like The Following and Dexter under his belt though, fans can rest easy knowing that Siega’s a trusty pair of hands.

Clearly, Batwoman is really heating up at the moment and with shooting set to get underway in April, it’ll only be a matter of time now before those first set photos fly online.
