HBO Fires Back At Game Of Thrones Critics Over Controversial Finale

To say this last week has been a rollercoaster for Game of Thrones fans, cast and crew would be the understatement of the century. The finale was the most divisive episode in the show's history, yet the most watched. Still, some of the fans who showed up in record numbers have never been so upset as they were this last season and now, an executive at HBO has read our angry hashtags and has responded by coming to the defense of the writers.

Casey Bloys, the programming president at the network, recently chatted with THR and was asked to share his opinion on the controversial season finale of Thrones and what the critics are saying about it. He explained that it’s impossible to please everyone and said that he thinks the team did a “beautiful job.”

“There’s no way for the guys to have landed this plane in a way that would have made everybody happy and they’re not out to make everybody happy. I think they did a beautiful job. You just have to accept that not everybody is going to agree with the choices.”

Sure, the season felt rushed and yes, the characters we came to love so much were seemingly hurried to whatever fate awaited them. But that’s some sound logic, as not everyone’s going to agree on everything.

Bloys then went on to state that the negative feelings fans have are actually a sign of how great the show was, saying:

“What’s great about the show is it made people feel a lot of things — positive and negative. A lot of people had invested in characters and hoped for certain things and wanted to see certain twists.”

As hard as it is to see things that way, it’s true. A television series that can invoke such strong reactions, both good and bad, in fans really did do something right. We hate to see our favorite characters go out the way they did (bricks instead of dragon’s fire…really?), but the fact that we’re so passionate about it is a sign that the show succeeded in drawing us in. And draw us in GoT did.

Tell us, though, did you love or hate Game of Thrones season 8? Hopefully your reaction wasn’t quite as angry and NSFW as Jason Momoa‘s was…wow.
