Danai Gurira Keeping Tight-Lipped About Upcoming Walking Dead Exit

The Walking Dead is about to lose another of its biggest stars when the zombie drama returns for its tenth season this fall. The Walking Dead is about to lose another of its biggest stars when the zombie drama returns for its tenth season this fall. Following Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan’s farewells last year, Danai Gurira is expected to have a much reduced role in season 10 before she’s written out of the show for good as Michonne.

The actress herself doesn’t seem ready to talk about her TWD goodbye publicly though, as she remained tight-lipped on the subject in an interview with THR. When asked about her upcoming exit, a light-hearted Gurira said she’ll keep her cards close to her chest for the time being:

“You guys have spoken elaborately about that, and I have not. And we’ll keep it that way.”

Like Lincoln and Cohan, Gurira isn’t leaving The Walking Dead forever. Her commitments to Marvel – the actress joined the MCU as Black Panther‘s Okoye in 2018 – mean she’s unable to stick with a full season schedule any more, but it’s reported that Michonne may reunite with the father of her children, Rick Grimes, in those much-anticipated TV movies that Andrew Lincoln’s working on.

As Gurira’s reluctance to comment on the situation shows, however, nothing has been made official on the subject just yet. Though we’ve been assured that some concrete news on the movies is coming pretty soon. In fact, originally, we heard that the first one might arrive this year, so hopefully that’s still the case.

As for season 10, showrunner Angela Kang has promised that Michonne will have a “nice, meaty” storyline in the run, regardless of her decreased role. The EP even teased that there’ll be another big Michonne-centric episode, much like season 9’s acclaimed episode “Scars.”

The Walking Dead returns to AMC for its tenth season this fall. In the meantime, Fear the Walking Dead is currently airing on Sundays.
