Titans Star Wants To Play Jason Todd In The Batman

Now that we know Robert Pattinson has been cast as the titular character in The Batman, it's only a matter of time before we learn who'll play the other denizens of Gotham City. While so many people may focus on the villains - and understandably so - let's not forget about the recent news saying Robin may appear in the flick as well.

Right now, it remains unclear which Boy Wonder will possibly be included. As such, fans backing Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake and Damian Wayne each have reason to fly their flags. But considering that we’re likely to see a Dark Knight in his earlier years of crimefighting, Dick Grayson fits the bill most.

Still, with so much source material to mine, I wouldn’t begrudge director Matt Reeves for taking some creative liberty by passing the buck to another in the line. Since 1943, the only Robin we’ve ever seen on the silver screen is Grayson. Furthermore, it wasn’t even until Titans‘ first season that anyone else had been adapted to live action.

Speaking of which, the young man who plays Jason Todd on said series, Curran Walters, is willing to pull double duty. Here’s what he had to say in a recent Tweet:

“@mattreevesLA hey let’s make this easy….I’ll play Jason Todd.”

Perfect as Walters has proven to be for the Jason Todd role, I just don’t see Warner Bros. having the same actor playing that character across two forms of media at the same time. But, who knows, maybe other opportunities await Curran and he’ll transition to becoming the Red Hood in Titans season 2 or beyond?

When it comes to factoring Jason into Reeves’ big picture, you have to admit there’s much potential. If Titans won’t explore the Red Hood arc, he could. Should a new trilogy be taking shape, then there’s ample room to adapt the death and resurrection of the fan favorite.

The Batman arrives in theaters on June 25th, 2021. Titans, however, is expected to begin its second season in early 2020.
