Kevin Feige Says Deadpool Won’t Be Showing Up In Spider-Man 3

Sorry guys, but it’s official: Deadpool won’t be mouthing off in a Spider-Man movie anytime soon.

While Disney’s purchase of 20^th Century Fox intrigued film buffs for a variety of reasons, Marvel fans were especially excited to see their favorite X-Men finally rub shoulders with Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange. In fact, wishful thinkers hopped on a rumor earlier this year that claimed the Merc with a Mouth would make his MCU debut in a future Spider-Man movie, but now new details confirm that won’t be the case.

ComicBook.com recently sat down to chat with Kevin Feige, where they flat out asked him about the Spider-Man/Deadpool theory. Unfortunately, the Marvel Studios president said there’s absolutely no truth to it:

“No I mean we’re certainly having conversations about the future of all of those Fox properties. How to weave them in and when to weave them in. That one, in particular, is not the case.”

Now that the merger is a done deal, it’s fun to speculate how the House of Mouse will introduce fan favorites like Wolverine and the Fantastic Four into the deeper history of the MCU. We know most of the roles will be recast, but Feige’s suggested that won’t be the case for Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool.

Considering Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is one of the best performances in a franchise built around standout characterizations, fans were salivating at the idea of him getting to interact with the wisecracking mutant swordsman. While their pairing isn’t totally off the table, Feige doesn’t seem interested in using Spider-Man 3 as a launching off point for the foul-mouthed X-character. Considering Deadpool is better suited for an R-Rated romp than Spidey’s usual PG-13 antics anyway, this is probably for the best.

That being said, it does sound like the latest Spider-Man movie – next month’s Far From Home – will have a massive effect on the MCU as a whole, closing out the third phase of the franchise and setting up Marvel’s next big bad for the foreseeable future. Meanwhile, rumors suggest Deadpool could still be reintroduced in his own solo movie or a standalone Disney Plus streaming series, though neither has been confirmed or denied at this point. That being said, one thing’s for certain: a character that popular won’t stay dormant for long.
