Good Omens went down a storm when it arrived on Amazon at the end of May, and social media hasn’t let it go since. The apocalyptic comedy-drama has gained a flourishing fandom that’s desperate for more from Aziraphale the angel and Crowley the demon. However, with the six-episode TV series completing the adaptation of the original novel from Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, it doesn’t seem like there’s anything more on the horizon.
If another season were to happen, though, Michael Sheen would be happy to return. The actor played one half of the heavenly/hellish double act at the center of the show alongside David Tennant and has said that, providing Tennant comes back and Gaiman returns as showrunner, he’d sign up for more.
“It’d have to be by Neil, I suppose, and it would depend on what it was, really. But yeah, I’d come back. I love the character and I love the world of it. It’s very enjoyable working with David and the rest of the team.”
So, does Gaiman have plans for a Good Omens season 2? Well, not that he’s telling us. The writer has maintained that he’s not committing to another season at the moment as he wants the six episodes to standalone and not be considered the beginning of a long-running show. He’s also played down the chances of spinoffs for any of the series’ memorable supporting characters for the same reason.
At least Gaiman fans have another adaptation of his work to look forward to in the form of The Sandman TV series that Netflix is working on. Sheen’s a close friend of Gaiman’s, too, so perhaps he’ll be asked back to play a different role in the DC comics show. Honestly, in the absence of more Good Omens, we’ll take anything.
