Halloween 2018

David Gordon Green Reportedly Returning To Direct Halloween 2 And 3

A new rumor from Bloody Disgusting says that David Gordon Green will return to shoot both Halloween 2 and 3 back-to-back.

We’ll be the first to admit that when the Powers That Be (see: Blumhouse and studio head Jason Blum) chose David Gordon Green and Danny McBride to develop 2018’s Halloween movie, we were skeptical.

After all, Green’s filmography is full of comedic hits in the vein of Pineapple Express and HBO comedy Eastbound & Down, while McBride is probably best known for his rib-tickling efforts both on and off the screen. And yet, the duo surprised just about everyone when they resurrected Laurie Strode and the terrifying Michael Myers for a 21st century audience, most of whom went nuts for the blood-curdling terror that unfolded before them in the film.

With that in mind, it’s not too surprising to hear that Jason Blum and Co. are officially developing a sequel. How, exactly, they’ll get around the fact that Halloween II already exists (released in 1981, and then again in 2009) is another question entirely, but it’s been made pretty clear already that Blum wants David Gordon Green back in the director’s chair, and it seems he’ll get his wish.

A new rumor over on Bloody Disgusting claims that Green will return to helm not just Halloween 2, but the next film after that as well, Halloween 3. Given that a threequel hasn’t even been announced yet, we’d advise taking this with a grain of salt. That being said, BD is usually pretty reliable with their intel and the next part of their report is perhaps even more interesting.

What Bloody Disgusting also says is that there’s a chance the two films will shoot back-to-back and release in the same month – October 2020. That sounds completely crazy and pretty much unprecedented, but it seems like that’s what Blumhouse has in mind for the franchise. Which means that fans may get to see two Halloween movies next fall. And how incredibly exciting is that?
