If you haven’t been watching Black Lightning for the past two seasons, well, then you’ve really been missing out. In my view, it’s consistently been among the better DC TV shows out there, especially when it comes to those airing on The CW.
For those who have been following along, you’ll know that the series seemingly exists in its own universe. Though various DC characters such as Supergirl and Vixen have been name-dropped, no proper crossover has come to be – nor has Jefferson Pierce participated in any of the big mashups going down each fall.
According to FandomWire though, that’ll change later this year, as they’re reporting that Black Lightning will indeed show up at some point during the highly anticipated “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” Based on what they’ve heard, Freeland’s protector won’t play a pivotal role but will be used in a capacity similar to how Batwoman was during 2018’s “Elseworlds.”
If this does pan out, I’d view it as a major coup for the Arrowverse because Black Lightning showrunner Salim Akil has held the character pretty close to his vest while trying to build his own world. There’s certainly nothing wrong with that, but we the fans have been champing at the bit to see this particular hero team up with the likes of Green Arrow, the Flash and Supergirl.
To quickly recap other “Crisis” cameos, know that both Tyler Hoechlin and Brandon Routh will suit up as different iterations of Superman, with the latter portraying the Man of Steel from the Kingdom Come timeline. And if that weren’t enough, LaMonica Garrett’s pulling double duty as the Monitor and Anti-Monitor, Elizabeth Tulloch returns as Lois Lane, Batman ’66 alum Burt Ward will show up, and – get this – Tom Welling and Lynda Carter are supposedly joining the party as well! That’s a whole lot of awesomeness, for sure.
Black Lightning returns with new episodes on Monday, October 21st on The CW.
