From what we’re hearing, “Crisis on Infinite Earths” is going to pull out all the stops in treating fans to as many thrilling crossovers as possible. And, seeing as Arrow is ending in the new year, it seems only appropriate for one of these to be the confirmation of the franchise’s longest-running fan theory: that John Diggle is a doppelganger of John Stewart’s Green Lantern.
We Got This Covered has been informed by our sources – the same ones who told us the real Mandarin will be the villain in Shang-Chi, and that Wonder Woman will don her Golden Eagle armor in the sequel, both of which were later confirmed – that David Ramsey will be playing a different version of Diggle from another Earth in the event who will be identified as John Stewart. Fans have been keeping their fingers crossed that all those clues about this over the past year would lead up to something in “Crisis” and, from what we’re hearing, their wish has been granted.
The theory itself dates back years, of course, but last year’s crossover “Elseworlds” really stoked the fires when Earth-90’s Flash recognized Diggle, calling him “John” and asking where his ring was. Surely a nod to a Green Lantern’s Power Ring, right? Likewise, an episode of Arrow season 7 saw Diggle reconnect with his step-father Roy Stewart. That last name further tied the character to the comic book GL.
If a Green Lantern really does appear in “Crisis,” this will be yet another major part of the DC mythos making their Arrowverse debut in the event. After all, Kevin Conroy will also appear as an older Batman, with Lynda Carter rumored to be showing up as Wonder Woman. All we need now is for Aquaman to turn up and we’d have all of the Justice League involved.
Ramsey has previously voiced his hopes that he’d get to address the rumors of Diggle’s connection to the Green Lantern Corps before Arrow ended, with showrunner Beth Schwartz teasing that this story is “to be continued.” As such, all the signs are pointing to John Stewart being on his way.
“Crisis on Infinite Earths” covers five episodes of all five shows and kicks off on The CW on Sunday, December 8th. Don’t miss it.
