Here’s How Batwoman Fits Into Crisis On Infinite Earths

When it comes to how Batwoman factors into the grand scheme of "Crisis on Infinite Earths," that's something we haven't discussed as much. Then again, that's somewhat understandable, because we've all been focused on how her solo adventures will turn out. Right now, the outlook is good, especially since villains such as Hush and Magpie have been confirmed to show up.

As it turns out, Batwoman‘s portion in the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” saga will air on a special night, that being Monday, December 9th. That’s right, it’ll briefly abandon Sundays so that the network may stretch this thing across several evenings.

From the sound of it, the second chapter in the arc may be the less comic book-y of the bunch, as executive producer and showrunner Caroline Dries said the following while speaking at the recent TCA press event:

“What was really important to me as we were breaking the crossover is that I want to really keep the tone of our show in Gotham and very grounded. We are just starting out, and our characters … it’s not normal for them to interact with aliens and travel to different universes and stuff like that. So that is the first thing I brought up to the writers in the major writers’ room as we were breaking the crossover, like, ‘this is the thing that’s important to me.’”

If the bigwigs allow for Dries to stick to her guns, then I guess the most science fiction-like thing we’ll see during Batwoman‘s chapter is maybe a guest star/doppelganger relevant to the Batman universe such as Burt Ward or Kevin Conroy. Either way, it should prove to be very entertaining.

Further clearing up matters shortly thereafter was Dries herself by telling this to BatwomanTV:

“It will make more sense, I think, when you see the crossover. Kate obviously has already met Kara, so the cat’s out of the bag in terms of the aliens existing. But at the same time, our characters are going through such intimate personal drama that I’m going to try to keep it so that they’re not also dealing with, like, ‘Wait. The universe is ending? Wait. There are other forms of people on different universes?’ All this stuff that I, as Caroline, was learning about when I sat down to be briefed on Crisis on Infinite Earths. It’s just a fine line of not overwhelming them with this huge otherworldly scope.”

The Batwoman series itself, meanwhile, premieres on Sunday, October 6th on The CW, so don’t forget to keep up with it heading into the crossover.
