May is a very tough month for those without the disposable income or time to spend every single night at the cinema. Studios are cranking out their blockbusters, and it looks like there are some films that could shoot up the list of the most successful of the year, at least in terms of box office figures, similar to what we saw in May of 2012. There are a ton of great films coming our way over the next 31 days, and figuring out which ones are worth your money may seem like a daunting task.
Season 8 of How I Met Your Mother is in its home stretch. With a mere 3 episodes remaining prior to tonight, Barney and Robin's wedding is on the horizon and a potential reveal of the mother is on everyone's mind for the next few weeks.
The story of a man fighting for his loved ones, doing whatever it takes to better their lives or to save them from the peril they're in, is far from revolutionary in film. In fact, some variation of that tale is at the core of almost any story. After all, what serves as a greater motivator than love? Writer/director Ron Morales takes this story and puts a very dark, very haunting spin on it. The result is Graceland.
Horror television is soaring in popularity lately, with shows such as American Horror Story, The Walking Dead and The Following paving the way for what will undoubtedly be countless other horror series. That's the good news. The bad news? MTV has got their hands on Scream, and a pilot for a series based on the classic horror franchise is headed to the network.
Brit Marling co-wrote The East with director Zal Batmanglij, but most who've seen the film are in consensus that she's just as talented on screen as she is with the pen. The film's newest trailer, which hit the web today, attempts to showcase that, as almost the entire 1:42 is focused on her character's conflicted position within the story.
Sean Faris, the actor best known for his roles in Never Back Down and Yours, Mine and Ours, is part of the all-star cast of Pawn, a story about a robbery of a small-town diner that is much more complicated than it originally seems. Faris plays Nick, a young man just released from prison who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time as the robbery unfolds.
The popular video game franchise Ratchet & Clank is in line for a big screen adaptation, as Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment have announced that they plan to make a 3D animated film out of the Insomniac Games property.
Marvel fans have a lot to be excited about in the next couple weeks. Not only is Iron Man 3 heading to theatres soon, but tomorrow the first trailer for Thor: The Dark World premieres. For those who simply can't stand to wait another day for some Thor promotion though, two new stills from the film have hit the web.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has turned into either a fanboy's dream come true or worst nightmare, depending on how you look at it. If you're in the camp that loves to know everything about production and have countless things to speculate about in the time building up to film's release, then Marc Webb and his cast have been catering to you. If you're the sort of fan who doesn't like to see anything about a movie before opening night, not even a trailer, well then I'd advise you avoid the internet all together for the next year.
Plans are in full force over at Disney to get Star Wars: Episode VII into theatres by summer of 2015, even though director J.J. Abrams claims that he still isn't even thinking about what he wants to do with the film. A series of spin-off films has been rumoured in addition to the main trilogy, but nothing concrete in terms of other films set in the Star Wars galaxy has been announced. That changes a bit now, as Disney and Lucasfilm have revealed that Episode VII will indeed hit theatres summer of 2015, and we can expect a Star Wars film every single summer after that until... well, until forever.
