It's becoming more apparent every day that no one has any idea what Warner Bros. is planning on doing with its DC properties after Man Of Steel, including those at Warner. We originally thought Justice League was coming our way in 2015, with original character films to follow, but the news of that film being contingent of Superman's summer success and the fact that Will Beall's script was reportedly terrible means all bets are out the window. The latest in the DC saga comes from Batman On Film who reports that not only is Justice League being pushed back even further, but we may see a full Superman trilogy and a Bataman reboot before ever seeing the entire League together on film.
Re-imaginings and literary adaptations have become Hollywood's bread and butter, and it doesn't appear that trend will be slowing down anytime soon. Sony is updating the classic Charles Dickens' tale Oliver Twist into a more adventurous story titled Dodge and Twist.
Some news outlets recently reported that the first trailer for James Mangold's The Wolverine would premiere before A Good Day To Die Hard on Valentine's Day and possibly even on the internet two days before that, February 12. Mangold took to twitter recently to say that those rumours were nothing more than rumours, and fans won't be seeing the first trailer for the film until sometime in late March.
Before getting into the actual plot, it was the additional elements of tonight's How I Met Your Mother episode that made it one of the best half hours of the season. I'm not sure whether it just happened that all the perfect ingredients fell into this episode or if it was a conscious effort by the show's creators to win back the fans who are upset about a lackluster 8th season. Regardless of their intentions, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are wise enough to know that when you combine Mike Tyson and Boba Fett you simply can't go wrong.
The rumours are swirling about Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg writing stand-alone films for the Star Wars universe, prompting some to believe the ultimate goal of Disney is to follow the Marvel formula and eventually release 2-3 films a year set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
Despite not directing a feature since Hostel: Part II in 2007, Eli Roth has been a very busy man recently. The modern master of horror has produced and/or written The Last Exorcism Part II, Clown, Aftershock, and The Man With The Iron Fists. Throw in his work on Vegas attraction Goretorium and the new Netflix original series Hemlock Grove and that's quite a full plate.
Ellen Page is rapidly evolving into one of the top actresses working right now. Film after film she turns in a great performance, and really seems to be getting better with every role she takes on. That success is due in no small part to the quality of filmmakers she's had the privileged of working with. Whether it's Christopher Nolan, Brett Ratner, or indie directors like Jason Reitman and Zal Batmanglij, Page has seen a variety great minds at work behind the camera. Now it's her turn to use all that knowledge she's picked up, as she'll be making her directorial debut with Miss Stevens.
The Justice League may be up against a problem too big for even Superman to save the day. The upcoming Warner Bros. film, which Fox's Mark Millar recently called an "excellent way of losing $200 million," is facing another setback which could mean it's well on its way to losing a portion of that sum Millar mentioned.
Lately it seems like we can't go a whole week without another role being announced for Tom Hardy. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining in any way. In fact, I couldn't be more excited that we're going to see Hardy in a ton of films in the coming years. He's already lined up roles in Animal Rescue, Child 44, Everest, and the video game adaptation Splinter Cell. Throw in his Mad Max movie Fury Road which he spent most of 2012 shooting and there will be no shortage of Hardy on the big screen in the very near future. But before he starts filming any of his new projects he'll get to work on Locke, which shoots later this month in London.
Production began on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 earlier this week, and today Sony made their official announcement by providing the first synopsis for the film. In that synopsis was another interesting bit of information - Colm Feore is a member of cast, but there's still no word on what his role is.
