Paul Haggis has been a little under the radar as of late and everyone keeps asking when he will make a new film. And not just any new film, but one that will match his directorial debut, the Oscar winning film Crash. Since Crash, Haggis has directed two more features: In The Vally Of Elah and The Next Three Days, both films I loved but neither reached the same level as Crash.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been a busy man of late. On top of planning his directorial debut, Don Jon's Addiction, which he will star in alongside Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore, Gordon-Levitt has been busy with high profile projects like Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises and Steven Spielberg's Lincoln. The man's schedule is becoming increasingly busy and today he announced that he will be pulling out of one of his upcoming films.
The Hunger Games star Wes Bentley has been spotted shooting scenes with Christian Bale for Terrence Malick's new films. At this point it is unclear whether the scenes are for the once titled Lawless or Knight Of Cups, but with all the footage that's been shot so far rumoured to be for Lawless, I think it's a safe bet that that will be the film that Bentley appears in.
True Blood star Jim Parrack and the star of Child Of God, Scott Haze, will star in a new film titled Black Dog Red Dog, set to be produced (and also possibly star) James Franco.
Scott Haze, who will be playing Lester Ballard in James Franco's upcoming adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's Child Of God, will premiere his own film, a documentary about wrestler Lee Kemp, at the 2012 Olympic Games. Titled Ghost and Goblins, the film will offer up an intriguing look at the life of Kemp, who overcame many adversities to become an Olympic champion.
News on Rob Marshall's remake of the film noir 1934 classic The Thin Man has been trickling out slowly but surely ever since the announcement that the Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides director would reunite with Johnny Depp on the film.
The first poster and a batch of photos have been released for Derick Martini's Hick. The film, which stars Chloe Moretz and Blake Lively, is based on the fantastic novel by Andrea Portes, who also co-wrote the script with Martini.
Today, we have our first look at the "extremely cool" James Franco in his next film, Spring Breakers. The film, which is directed by Harmony Korine, follows "four college-aged girls who rob a fast food restaurant to afford spring break in Florida, only to get arrested upon their arrival."
Author Stephen Elliott's directorial debut Cherry has found distribution at IFC after its premiere at the Berlinale Film Festival in February. The film didn't receive the best reviews after its premiere but the story seems very real, raw, gritty and intriguing, which is why I'm excited for it.
Writer and director William Monahan, who is probably best known for his Oscar win for Martin Scorsese's The Departed in 2006, will step behind the camera for a second time this year. Monahan will write and direct a crime thriller titled Mojave in Southern California, with production beginning in August.
