From a certain perspective, Black Widow is unlikely to contain many big surprises. It's set after the events of Captain America: Civil War and the world already witnessed Natasha's ultimate fate in Avengers: Endgame earlier this year. But there is one mystery that's got tongues wagging: the identity of Taskmaster. As of yet, no actor has been announced as playing the role, leading many to assume that it'll be someone who we've already seen in disguise.
While we don't know too much about Captain Marvel 2 at the moment, there are a whole bunch of rumors swirling around that it might feature a number of MCU heroes teaming up to battle the Kree army. A few days ago, for instance, our sources told us that Marvel Studios are eager to get Natalie Portman's Thor from Love and Thunder involved. That makes sense to me, as both are regular human women infused with cosmic energies. But there've also been numerous reports that Spider-Man might be in the movie and now, there's a whisper that we might also see one of the Defenders, too. In particular, it's said that Daredevil could show up.
Billy Dee Williams is set to make his triumphant return to a galaxy far, far away in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Lando Calrissian is back, and while we don't know how much of a role he'll play in the movie it'll be nice to see what he's been up to. But never mind Lando, Williams himself generated a lot of column inches last week with an interview where he said:
2018's Halloween breathed new life into Michael Myers, making for a critical and box office smash that took the franchise in a fresh direction while paying tribute to its past. Buoyed up by its success, Blumhouse have commissioned back-to-back sequels: Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. They'll be released around Halloween 2020 and 2021, but have both been shooting over the last few months. And making his debut in the franchise with these films is The Haunting of Hill House and Doctor Sleep star Robert Longstreet, who'll play Lonnie Elam.
Wonder Woman 1984 is finally heading into cinemas in summer 2020 and fans are eagerly awaiting Diana's 1980s set adventure, with many eager to find out just how Chris Pine's Steve Trevor has managed to come back from the dead. But right up there with that is how director Patty Jenkins plans to bring villainess Cheetah to the screen.
I get sad when I think about what we missed out on when Warner Bros. booted Zack Snyder off Justice League. Not only was the film itself totally butchered, but its planned sequels are now just fantasies. We've learned a lot ever since the pic's release two years ago though, mainly through Snyder himself teasing fans with nuggets of information on social media.
Ever since the Disney/Sony conflict resolved amicably earlier this year and fostered a new spirit of cooperation between the two studios, fans have been wondering about the connections between Sony's Spiderverse and the MCU. While Venom was not an MCU movie, it seems that Tom Holland's Spider-Man will indeed appear in Venom 2 and 3 and J.K. Simmons will be playing J. Jonah Jameson in both Morbius and a future MCU Spidey film.
One of the biggest worries amongst fans when Disney bought 20th Century Fox was that this would be the end of their R-rated superhero movies. The Deadpool films were box office smashes and beloved by audiences and Logan won widespread critical acclaim for its mature character focus. But there's been some light on the horizon as of late. Deadpool co-writer Paul Wernick says Disney has promised that the Merc with the Mouth will stay R-rated and now it seems as if they may be happy to let Wolverine stay R-rated, too, at least in his solo movies.
