I'm a writer/editor who's been at the site since 2015. I cover politics, weird history, video games and... well, anything really. Keep it breezy, keep it light, keep it straightforward.
The back of Pokémon cards are so familiar to diehard fans of the franchise that they probably don't even really see them anymore. The design features the Pokémon logo and a Pokéball that's just about to open up, presumably to reveal the creature on the flip side of the card. But over on Twitter, user @TAHK0 noticed there was something wrong with this design, as he spotted that the Pokéball is opening from the wrong side.
With Tom Holland's Spider-Man saying goodbye to the MCU and hello to Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters (they have got to think of a better name than that), it is inevitable that he'll cross webs with Tom Hardy's Venom. So how could this work? After all, in the original comics, Venom's entire origin story revolves around Spider-Man. The character hates Spider-Man because both the symbiote and Eddie Brock feel wronged by Spidey. The alien symbiote was rejected by Spider-Man its insidious effects and Brock fired from the Daily Globe after Spider-Man exposes one of his scoops as a fraud.
It's difficult to find a Batman fan who's going to care about Joel Schumacher's opinions. The director of Batman Forever and Batman & Robin is credited with running the franchise into the ground with such ferocity that it took nearly a decade, a complete reboot and Christopher Nolan to revive it. His bad reputation is well earned, despite making some minor classics like The Lost Boys, Flatliners and Falling Down, he decided to go all-in on camp with the Caped Crusader, with the results having aged terribly over the years.
Ghostbusters is back! The original and best movie is 35-years-old this year and to mark the occasion, Fathom Events are bringing the film back into theaters on October 6th and 10th. But this won't be just any old screening of a classic movie. The pic will be screened together with a new introduction that brings together key members of the cast, who'll reminisce on their experiences of working on the project.
The awesome new trailer for Joker has really turned some heads. Joaquin Phoenix looks like he's going to live up to the hype, the politics of the film are absolutely fascinating and there's an undercurrent of menace to the whole thing that really tickles my oysters. One aspect that sets Joker apart from most other contemporary superhero movies though is that it takes place in its own universe. That may change if the pic is a big hit and Warner Bros. decides the Jokerverse is the next big thing, but for now, it may be a one and done drama.
Everybody should subject themselves to Batman & Robin at least once. No matter how bad you've been told it is, I assure you that the reality is worse. It's a neon-soaked nightmare full of terrible acting, embarrassing costumes, horrible CGI, one of the all-time worst scripts (by Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman) and, despite all that, it's also crushingly boring. But it should be watched, if only to impress on audiences how truly bad a Batman film can be. For all intents and purposes, it killed Joel Schumacher's career as a major Hollywood director and he's even gone on record to apologize to fans.
It's commonly said that audiences never even notice the best CGI. Sure, in huge sequences with fantastical monsters you know that what you're watching was never on set, but there's also a lot of minor stuff in movies that completely passes by viewers. A great example is the insanely realistic CGI in Logan that went by unnoticed by pretty much everyone.
After the bumper success of Beauty and the Beast, Disney appears determined to give the live-action treatment to every single one of their animated classics. 2019 alone has seen Dumbo, Aladdin and The Lion King hit cinemas, with Lady and the Tramp and Mulan landing very soon. Beyond that, we know they're working on adaptations of The Little Mermaid, The Sword in the Stone, Pinocchio, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Lilo & Stitch. But, there's a couple of notable animated classics that we haven't heard much about, with the most interesting one being Hercules.
I can't wait for the Knights of the Old Republic movies. With every Star Wars film to date taking place in and around the Skywalker Saga and Knights of the Old Republic set thousands of year before it, we should see the studio really flexing their imaginations. Right now, we only have a vague idea of what these movies will consist of, but our sources have said that Lucasfilm are looking to Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings for a bit of inspiration.
