I'm a writer/editor who's been at the site since 2015. I cover politics, weird history, video games and... well, anything really. Keep it breezy, keep it light, keep it straightforward.
Spider-Man: Far From Home hits domestic theaters on July 2nd, and as of today, it's good to go. Director Jon Watts revealed on Instagram that the film has finished post-production and is now complete. That leaves about three weeks for a busy round of press, followed by international premieres and hopefully some media screenings very soon.
Yesterday we got our first proper look at Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in action, courtesy of a roughly 15-minute gameplay trailer that showed off the core mechanics. Reactions online were somewhat mixed, with a large number of fans thinking that the game looked a bit dull and by the books. Despite Respawn clearly cribbing from FROM Software's Dark Souls and Bloodborne titles, it looked a lot like the late 2000s Force Unleashed games, albeit without much sense of bombast or spectacle.
The Blair Witch is back. In the first big development in the franchise since 2016's iffy sequel Blair Witch, Microsoft has unveiled Bloober Teams' Blair Witch at their E3 conference. The title appears to be a horror title in which you search for missing children in the woods. The game will be played in first-person perspective and I'd imagine it'll feature a lot more running and hiding rather than blasting monsters with guns.
Most people going into Avengers: Endgame assumed that either or both of Tony Stark/Iron Man and Steve Rogers/Captain America wouldn't be around to see the credits roll. Throughout most of the movie, I had Cap pegged as the one to fall in battle. During that climactic and world-shaking fight against Thanos, there were a number of moments where I thought his goose was well and truly cooked. Perhaps the tensest scene came when the Mad Titan was bearing down on Cap with all his ferocity, his sword slicing through that iconic indestructible shield as if it was warm butter.
Disney is famous for being very strict about what happens in their parks. Each cast member is taught the very precise rules of engagement they have with guests, with the areas full of Disney's "Security Plain Clothes Operatives" ensuring that the happiest place on Earth stays that way. Said rules apply to their new and hugely popular Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge as well, which has just opened in Disneyland to rave reviews. But there's a new rule in the park that says cast members must not use a specific word from the Star Wars saga under any circumstances.
Back in April Vin Diesel set tongues wagging when he hinted that John Cena could be joining the cast of Fast and Furious 9. Today that casting has been officially confirmed, with Universal announcing that the iconic professional wrestler and actor is part of the movie. Precisely who he's going to be playing in the film is as yet under wraps, but it's being reported that he will play a "badass". But given that pretty much every character in the Fast and Furious franchise is a badass of some description that doesn't exactly narrow things down.
Now that Avengers: Endgame has just about finished its world-conquering box office run, we can soon look forward to Spider-Man: Far From Home. Then, Marvel Studios' Phase 3 will officially be done, and with it over a decade of superhero storytelling that's thrilled audiences around the globe.
A recent leak of Marvel Studios' plans for Phase 4 of the MCU has brought us quite a few intriguing tidbits. While we know at least the next 5 or 6 confirmed films in some level of production, there are also wild cards like a Nova solo movie and the intriguing-sounding New Avengers, Young Avengers and Dark Avengers. But for longtime fans of the franchise, it seems some classic heroes aren't going away just yet, as the leak also claims that Thor 4, Ant-Man 3 and Captain Marvel 2 are all on the slate as well.
With the 1990s apparently being the big retro decade of the moment, what better time for Friends to make a comeback. First airing in 1994, the hit sitcom from David Crane and Marta Kauffman was a global smash, with the adventures of Ross, Rachel, Joey, Chandler, Monica and Phoebe amusing audiences for eight seasons and 236 episodes. The show eventually wrapped up in 2004, and though there was the brief (and terrible) spinoff Joey, that's been the last we'd heard of the Central Perk crew.
