Let's face it, being named the Sexiest Man Alive has got to brighten up a dull day. Idris Elba, star of TV show Luther, the MCU's Heimdall and constantly mentioned as a future 007, recently received this honor courtesy of People Magazine.
Mark Ruffalo and Tom Holland could take some lessons in secrecy from Jude Law, who's being so tight-lipped about his role in Captain Marvel that he won't even confirm which character he's playing. Most have assumed he's set for the part of Mar-Vell - the Kree warrior and first Captain Marvel who disguises himself on Earth as Dr. Walter Lawson. After all, we already know that Law's character is the leader of the Starforce group that Larson's Carol Danvers joins which, in all honesty, pretty much means he's Mar-Vell. Or does it?
It's been almost a year since Star Wars: The Last Jedi hit cinemas and certain corners of the internet are still bent out of shape about the direction Rian Johnson has taken the franchise. One of the ongoing sticking points is the way he wrote Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker, with attacks on the movie frequently stating that the Luke in The Last Jedi doesn't logically follow from the man they saw take down the Emperor and bring peace to the galaxy in The Return of the Jedi.
The Walt Disney Company cleared another hurdle today in their impending purchase of Fox and its assets, when the European Commission (who are responsible for managing the day to day business of the European Union) gave the thumbs up to the deal - as long as a few conditions are met.
When Disney cancelled Star Wars: The Clone Wars, with the explanation that they wanted to “pursue a new direction in animated programming,” fans were dismayed. After a couple of ups and downs in early seasons, the show found its feet when introducing and developing one of the all-time greatest Star Wars fan favorite characters: Anakin Skywalker's Padawan, Ahsoka Tano. Now, with the show unexpectedly brought back from the dead for a final 12 episode run, Ahsoka's voice actor, Ashley Eckstein, wants to update us on the current status of it.
While Iron Fist isn't the worst thing that's been released under the MCU banner (hi Inhumans), it's right at the bottom of the barrel. Leaving aside all the white savior stuff going on, Finn Jones' Danny Rand was a pretty annoying character and, worst of all, the fight sequences in a show ostensibly about martial arts looked absolutely terrible. The second season was a slight improvement on the first, but it wasn't a great surprise when Disney and Netflix announced that it'd been cancelled.
Captain America: The First Avenger never gets the praise it's due. Sure, there's a couple of weak spots in the film, but Chris Evans nails it out of the gate for Cap, the romance with Peggy Carter is genuinely sweet and, of course, Hugo Weaving was superb as Red Skull. Despite this, most assumed it'd be unlikely that we'd see the villain again in the MCU, primarily because Weaving absolutely despised the complex make-up and prosthetics and made it very clear that despite being under contract for more movies, he didn't want to return.
There was a lot of very justified wailing when Disney cancelled Star Wars: The Clone Wars, with the studio claiming that they wanted to "pursue a new direction in animated programming." After a rocky start, the show developed into an unexpectedly compelling watch with some all-time fan favorite Star Wars characters. Not to mention that it was happy to explore some very strange corners of a galaxy far, far away that you'd never see in a film.
Jude Law's turn as young(ish) Dumbledore is one of the key selling points of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. With the film showing the rise to power of Dark Wizard Gellert Grindelwald, his former friend and lover Albus Dumbledore is set to play a key role in flashbacks to Newt Scamander's time at Hogwarts and in his adventures in Paris and London. But now it transpires that another much-loved Harry Potter character will also be making a return. Mild spoilers follow:
