Star Trek: Discovery Reveals Its Take On The Notorious Picard Maneuver
Captain Jean-Luc Picard's famous for his wisdom, patience and diplomatic instincts. Yet, when push came to shove, he was also a fine warrior. For example, he invented what became known as 'The Picard Maneuver' where, prior to his Captaincy of the Enterprise, he would use a quirk of warp speed to make his ship appear to be in two places at once. Thus, the enemy vessel would fire upon the 'wrong' ship, giving Picard the opportunity to blast them with phasers and photon torpedoes.

New Avengers: Infinity War Theory Hints At Thanos’ True Plan For The Universe
The depiction of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War more than did justice to Jim Starlin's classic 1992 limited series, with one major difference. The MCU Mad Titan is the embodiment of Malthusian philosophy, fearing that over-population will ruin the universe. The comic book Thanos, however, is in love with Death (sadly, she's more into Deadpool) and figures if he murders half the universe, she'll finally notice him.

Ruben Fleischer Reveals The Horror Inspirations Behind Venom
Venom's horror credentials recently took a bit of a whack when the film was revealed to be targeting a PG-13 rating. Word is that the pic originally aimed for an R (which fits with the gory reports of the footage screened at Comic-Con), but Sony executives decided that their nascent cinematic universe would be better served by a more kid-friendly release. Undoubtedly, this is a disappointment to horror fans who were hoping that the brain-munching alien symbiote might mark a rare horror-themed adult entry into the busy superhero genre.

New Photo Has Fans Thinking Ben Affleck Won’t Return For The Batman
I can't believe we're still debating over whether Ben Affleck is going to return in The Batman. It's been nine months or so since Justice League slunk into cinemas and disappointed everyone, compounded by a clearly miserable Affleck enduring a press circuit he obviously didn't want to do. Most assumed he would walk in early 2019, yet it's nearly September and, despite perpetual rumor-mongering, we're still no closer to knowing who's going to don the cape and cowl next.

The Punisher Just Killed A Major Villain In Marvel Comics
As awesome a character as Frank Castle/The Punisher is, he's always had a problem with developing a rogues gallery to equal other Marvel superheroes. This is because he's not exactly inclined to cart them off to the cops once he's caught them. If he's in a good mood, they'll just get their brains blown over a wall. But if he's really mad, he might feed them to a shark, suffocate them with a fat dude, smash them into bulletproof glass or simply nuke 'em.

Avengers: Infinity War’s Climactic Deaths Were Originally Much More Disturbing
The ending of Avengers: Infinity War was genuinely shocking. Not in my wildest dreams did I think Marvel Studios had the balls to kill off heavy-hitters like Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Nick Fury, (most of) the Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther and many, many more. The first time I saw it on opening night there was a bunch of children weeping in abject misery in the audience, traumatized by the sight of their favorite heroes collapsing into a pile of ash. But, according to Infinity War VFX director Dan Deleeuw, things could have looked a whole lot more disturbing. As he explained to Screen Rant:

Solo: A Star Wars Story Novelization Reveals L3-37’s Messed Up Fate
Anyone remember Solo: A Star Wars Story? Y'know, that young Han Solo film that came out a while back. It kind of sunk without a trace so I don't blame you if it's slipped your mind. Anyway, the novelization by Mur Lafferty is coming out soon (a bit late...) and features some new insight into an already pretty screwed up scene. One criticism of the film was the scene where L3-37, a droid rights activist voiced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and apparently Lando's robo-lover, is mortally wounded. The only way to save a piece of her is to upload her brain into the Millennium Falcon - thus consigning her to slavery and to be viewed as an object - her own personal hell!

Netflix Confirms That Death Note 2’s Coming Soon
If you listen very carefully right now you might hear a distant wailing and gnashing of teeth. That sound is countless fans of Tsugumi Ohba's manga and Tetsuro Araki's anime Death Note receiving news that Netflix has commissioned a sequel to 2017's Adam Wingard directed adaptation, considered by fans to have been a direct slap in the face to the manga. Despite the fanbase's revulsion about the show's Americanisation and perceived dilution of its themes, Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos has described the live-action adaptation as a "sizable" success.

The Arrowverse Heroes Strut Their Stuff In New Super Season Promo
While the DC heroes on the silver screen often look a little wobbly lately, the same can't be said for the CW's increasingly ambitious and well-regarded 'Arrowverse' shows. In just two months we'll get the return of The Flash, Supergirl, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow - not to mention the introduction of Ruby Rose's much-hyped Batwoman in their December crossover episodes. Zack Snyder’s Secret Cameo In Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice Revealed
Eagle-eared fans have noticed a pretty familiar voice in a key scene in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, that of director and Vero enthusiast Zack Snyder. While the filmmaker's had an Icarus-like fall from grace after studio executives got cold feet about his vision of Justice League amid the critical savaging suffered by Batman V Superman, it seems he'll at least live on in the DCEU/Worlds of DC in vocal form.
