Fans are kicking up a fuss because they still haven't seen the first trailer for a 2019 Marvel flick, and yes, this does all feel eerily familiar, doesn’t it? The world has just witnessed one of the biggest weeks ever for MCU promotion, kicking off with the new Captain Marvel trailer on Monday, followed by the long-awaited Avengers: Endgame teaser on Friday. But while fans were relieved to finally see some footage from the Avengers: Infinity War sequel, little did they know that fresh disappointment was just around the corner, as the news broke on Saturday that contrary to previous reports, the first Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer wouldn’t be making its way online that day.
Though we had to wait a little longer than most of us expected for the first Avengers: Endgame trailer, when the footage did arrive, it came with the announcement that the film itself will be arriving sooner than was previously reported.
When the first trailer for the film formerly known as Avengers 4 dropped last Friday, not only did this long-awaited moment draw to a close several exhausting weeks of speculation on when and how the footage was most likely to arrive, but it also laid to rest all debate around the movie’s official title, displaying in big, purple-tinted lettering the name Avengers: Endgame.
Avengers: Infinity War got unusually heavy by Marvel Studios standards, so it came as little surprise to see the first trailer to the film’s highly anticipated sequel offer a similarly solemn tone. But if you think the Avengers: Endgame teaser could’ve stood to be just a little gloomier, YouTuber Mr. Krepshus has taken it upon himself to give the footage the Logan treatment.
Brie Larson’s appearance at Brazil’s Comic Con Experience (CCXP) came at the tail end of an eventful week for MCU fans which saw trailers for both Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame make their way online. And while some folks were a little disappointed by the lack of Carol Danvers in the latter, the actress took it upon herself to remind us that she has some important business to attend to in the Avengers: Infinity War sequel.
Pretty much all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a grudge against Thanos after the events of Avengers: Infinity War, but for few characters is that gripe more personal than for the Mad Titan’s own adopted daughter Nebula. So when the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame finally emerged online, actress Karen Gillan took the opportunity to remind us that she’ll have some unfinished business to attend to in next year’s release.
After last year’s Justice League failed to meet expectations at the box office, the DCEU has been the focus of an ongoing stream of reports suggesting that the superhero saga is in a period of transition. And as the studio makes plans for a whole load of upcoming projects focused on a new generation of super-powered leads, it sounds like Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill have each exited from their respective roles as Batman and Superman. If the news is all true, however, then both actors have the sympathies of their old co-star Jason Momoa.
The DCEU has a notoriously divisive track record, but one entry that most of us were pretty glad we saw was last year’s Wonder Woman, setting expectations high for the eventual Wonder Woman 1984. Another franchise installment that could be on the verge of receiving a similarly warm response, however, is Aquaman, and should Arthur Curry’s solo debut perform as well as Warner Bros. is hoping, Amber Heard has a suggestion for where her character’s story could be go next.
With Star Wars: Episode IX still over a year away from release, Lucasfilm is in no hurry to divulge the details, meaning that much of the cast of J.J. Abrams’ next film is remaining decidedly tight-lipped.
It was evident from the first trailer that Bumblebee would earn the curiosity of filmgoers who normally wouldn’t touch the Transformers movies with a ten-foot pole, and now that the first responses are rolling in, it’s clear that viewers hoping for a change of pace from the exhausting and overbearing spectacle of the Michael Bay films haven’t been misled.
